Large diameter fan blades are reduced in diameter by a hydraulic cropping tool.

An automatic indexing mechanism presents each blade in turn to the tool. The length of each blade is set by a servo motor drive mechanism. The balance of each fan is corrected by automatically altering the length of each blade,data being transferred automatically from the balance measuring machine.
